Columbia Small Business Development Center

JuleanJulean Evans spends her day having fun with people less than half her size!

This successful entrepreneur has found success in caring for children during the day while their parents work. And she's been so successful in one location, that she has added a second facility to her portfolio so she can have even more fun!

For some time, Julean had been renting a building for her business — Moberly's Finest Day Care Center. She decided to purchase the facility, but finding financing was a challenge. So, she approached Nick Arends at the University of Missouri-Columbia SBDC. After he calculated cash-flow projections, Julean returned to the bank and was successful in obtaining financing.

About a year later, Julean decided to replicate her success in Columbia. Once again, she rented the facility but soon had a desire to purchase it. And once again, she consulted with Nick to obtain assistance in developing a business plan and financial projections for the new location. Although the financing was once again approved, Julean decided to wait on the purchase of the facility so she could better test Columbia's market.

Columbia's Finest Child Development CenterNow, Columbia's Finest is at capacity with 102 children. Julean anticipates completing her purchase of the facility in early 2005. She has 14 employees, all college graduates.
